One single word can not even begin to describe the amount of time and service Amber Cumings has dedicated to both her home community and her college community. Amber is a sophomore studying Pre-Optometry. She hopes to have her Early Admission Application in for the Michigan College of Optometry by this March, which would mean that she could start Optometry school by the time she reaches her fourth year of schooling. She has been a very contributing member of her community both back home and here in Big Rapids. Amber has done community service as a member of both the Pre-Optometry Club and Circle K, an organization with which she has helped raise money for charity and has volunteered with the elderly. Her goal is to be elected president of Circle K for the next academic year. Amber has also dedicated two years to being a part of The Newman Center for Catholic Students, which is a religious club, where she sings choir every Sunday at St. Paul’s Chapel. Amber is also a peer mentor, serving as a guide and role model to freshmen. This year, Amber was inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars because of her exceptional leadership skills and her grade point average, which is a cumulative GPA of 4.0. This has helped her to earn the Edwin Harris Memorial Scholarship through the Honor’s Program. Amber is an outstanding student that the Honors Program is proud to congratulate because of her achievements and dedication.
