Did you hear that Ferris is giving the Rankin Student Center a facelift? Well, it’s true! Starting in late May/Early June of 2013, construction for the new University Center will begin. The new University Center is the newest exciting way to help YOU learn and enjoy your time here at FSU. The new, modern UC will open a door to endless opportunities for Honors Students. One of the main goals of the new University Center is to provide a bridge between academics and student support. So, what exactly are we to expect out of this new architectural masterpiece? Though the plans are not finalized, some of the ideas to look forward to will include a new Coffee House to fuel students for those long nights of studying, a performance stage for students to display their talents, and tons of seating and a lounge that will supply a comfortable area for studying, relaxing, and socializing. Also in the works for this project, are numerous multi-purpose meeting rooms for RSOs and other events around campus. A more convenient “Anytime Dining Service”, which will be similar to the style of The Rock, along with a possible hang out “Club” are also ideas for the new building.
So, how is the new “YOU”niversity Center going to benefit YOU, the Honors Students? Not only will the UC offer a community to grow leadership skills and ways to perfect studies, but it is also in a prime location! Just across the quad from FLITE Library, the University Center will stand tall to provide the framework that supports a perfect opportunity for academic growth within the Honors Program. With its location close to most classrooms and offices, Honors Students will be able to take advantage of the UC between classes and meetings for studying, eating, and relaxing.
This $30 million project has been estimated to take anywhere from 14-18 months and should be completed by Fall of 2014. The University Center Planning Committee has worked extremely hard on the plans to provide students at Ferris State University with the best facilities and to ensure academic success for their futures. Please stay tuned for more updates on the Rankin Renovation, University Center construction, and ways that FSU is working to make this campus the best place for YOU!
