Mythbuster Monday #5

This is a question I received on the Endeavor Facebook:

Myth: “We only have to sign up for an Honors course during the second semester of our second year in Honors, correct?”

False! The student that messaged me about this brought up the Ferris Honors Program page for Honors courses. The header of that page looks like this:Screen Shot 2013-03-23 at 8.50.53 PM

I can see where this may be misleading. But, if you read in your Honors Student Handbook, it states (on page 9, under the header entitled “Sophomore”) that you must:

  • Earn at least a C grade in an Honors course (Not HNRS 100 or COMH 121) in the fall semester.
  • Earn at least a C grade in an Honors course (Not HNRS 100 or COMH 121) in the spring semester.

It also states:

  • You may postpone taking the Honors courses or substitute one or two Honors courses with courses taken during a study abroad trip, if you first obtain permission for the Honors Program office.
  • If you drop or withdraw from an Honors course without permission from the Honors Program office, you will be immediately dismissed from the Honors Program.

Please be aware of this, soon-to-be-sophomores! And remember, if you are planning on registering for GEOG 421, HUMH 327, or LITR 306, you must obtain permission by emailing honors@ferris.edu. Since registration began last Monday, and these classes might have already been filled.

If you have any questions, please contact the Honors Program office.
