By: Brittany Trombley

These are a collection of recipes that can be created within your own dorm room for those times you don’t feel like eating at The Rock or Quad and you can’t stand living off of ramen noodles or cereal anymore.

First there are some suggested items you can keep in your dorm:

  • Cutting Boards
  • Can opener
  • Crock pot
  • Knives under 2.5″
  • Ziploc bags
  • Mixer (electric)

And a few things you cannot have:

  • Hot plates
  • Knives longer than 2.5″
  • Fridges larger than 4.6 cubic ft.
  • Toaster/Toaster oven
  • Electric skillets
  • Microwave over 750 watts

Cheap Interpretations

Mac N Cheese

Ingredients:

  • 1 package of Kraft Deluxe Macaroni and Cheese
  • 2 cups Rotisserie Chicken
  • 2 tbsp Barbecue Sauce
  • 2 Green Onions

Need:

  • Large Saucepan
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Cutting Board and Chopping Knife

Directions:

Prepare Kraft Dinner in large saucepan as directed on package. Add chicken and barbeque sauce; cook and stir 1 minute or until heated through. Top with chopped green onions.

Cost:

Macaroni and Cheese: Kraft Deluxe Dinner 14oz                                         $2.50/each

Chicken: Markets of Meijer Original Rotisserie Chicken                             $6.99/each

BBQ Sauce: Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet and Spicy Barbecue Sauce 18oz       $2.00/each

Green Onions: Fresh Green Onion, Bunch                                                    $0.69/each

Potential Problems:

Rotisserie chicken can be quite expensive so it can be substituted with boneless, skinless chicken breasts. After cooking they can be added to the macaroni and cheese.
