Dorm Life Cookbook: Ramen

By: Brittany Trombley

These are a collection of recipes that can be created within your own dorm room for those times you don’t feel like eating at The Rock or Quad and you can’t stand living off of ramen noodles or cereal anymore.

First there are some suggested items you can keep in your dorm:

  • Cutting Boards
  • Can opener
  • Crock pot
  • Knives under 2.5″
  • Ziploc bags
  • Mixer (electric)

And a few things you cannot have:

  • Hot plates
  • Knives longer than 2.5″
  • Fridges larger than 4.6 cubic ft.
  • Toaster/Toaster oven
  • Electric skillets
  • Microwave over 750 watts

Cheap Interpretations

  • 1 (3oz) Package Any Flavor Ramen Noodles
  • 1 Slice Cheese
  • Water

  • Small Bowl
  • Fork

Place dry slab of noodles into bowl, and pour enough water to cover the slab of noodles. Microwave on high for two minutes. Stir and flip over the noodle block. Microwave on high for an additional two minutes. Let stand for about a minute then pour off the water. Stir in the seasoning packet and cheese.

Ramen Noodles: Maurchan Ramen Noodles 3oz                         $0.22/each

Sliced Cheese: Meijer Singles American Cheese 12oz                  $2.00/each

Potential Problems:

Beware that the bowl will get incredibly hot  when it goes in the microwave for extending periods of time. I almost burned myself pulling it out after the additional two minutes of cooking.
